Retaining Wall Blocks

The Block Shop Plantable Retaining System
Instructions for Use:
Site preparation
Always begin from the lowest horizontal point. Excavate a trench 300mm wide by 300mm deep. Firmly place 100mm of compacted aggregate base material in the trench, then firmly compact until a solid and even base has been achieved. String line the front of your walls as close as possible to the front edge of the trench.
Laying the first block
Place the first layer of blocks with the lip to the back of the wall. Make sure that the blocks meet fully at the ends. Using a builders level, level the blocks from end to end, then from front to back (for added wall strength this layer may have a front to back tilt – consult a technical support representative on 0800 825 625 for advice in this area). Fill the block cavity with clean scoria. Check the levels then backfill the front and back of the block with scoria or clean graded drainage aggregate. Compact firmly.
Stack, fill and compact
Brush any excess aggregate from the top of the first layer, and then place the next row of blocks. Position the block up to the back of the curved feature which provides a lock alignment and a premeditated setback for added wall strength. Fill the block cavity with scoria. Backfill the back of the block with compactable base material. Compact firmly. A drain flow pipe is optional depending on the height of the wall - consult a technical support representative on 0800 825 625 for advice in this area.
Plant your wall
Repeat Step Three until desired wall height is achieved. With the last row of blocks, the backfill of scoria can be substituted for clean top soil. At the front face of the wall, planatable cavities are created to allow you the added luxury of creating your own hanging garden, or leaving as it is.
